Sinopsis / Deskripsi : This session guides lecturers and researchers on preparing high-quality human research proposals that achieve timely ethics approval while strengthening postgraduate supervision practices. Effective preparation reduces revisions, prevents avoidable delays

Objektif :
  1. Identify common weaknesses in proposals that lead to delays in ethical approval.
  2. Apply reviewer perspectives to critically evaluate research objectives, methodology, and consent processes before submission.
  3. Integrate supervisory best practices into proposal development to improve ethics approval timelines and research quality.
  4. Explain how scientific rigour and ethical responsibility are closely related in human research proposals.
  5. Align proposal preparation with international reporting and protocol standards (e.g., SPIRIT, EQUATOR).

  1. Appreciate the relationship between scientific quality and ethical acceptability, recognising that weak study design, unclear objectives, or inappropriate methodology constitute ethical concerns in human research.

  3. Differentiate clearly between standard care and research interest/interventions, and appropriately justify clinical equipoise, feasibility, and participant involvement across different study designs, including observational and interventional studies.

  5. Guide postgraduate students in preparing ethically robust and review-ready proposals, using structured tools and standards highlighted in the slides (e.g., reviewer-evaluated elements, SPIRIT), to minimise delays and major revisions during ethics review.
